James Fisher 1847-1925
A brief Family History.

Abraham Fischer, at age 18, came to Jamestown, in the Old Dominion (Virginia), in America. He arrived by ship prior to the Revolutionary War. It is alleged that he fled Germany to avoid being hung for stealing one of his father’s, a nobleman, horse. He assisted the colonies in achieving their independence and operated a black powder mill by Jamestown. They had a son whose name was Johanes(John).

John Fischer(Fisher) was a cabinetmaker and may have served in the Virginia militia in 1795. He did serve as a Corporal in the 58th Regiment, Virginia Militia, Rockingham County during the War of 1812. His wife was a Susanna Baker from North East Germany or North West Russia. They had a son named Johan(John)

John Fisher II, born in 1817, was a cabinetmaker and served in the Civil War as a private in the Virginia 1st. Cavalry, Company I, Rockingham County joining 11 Aug. 1862 and served till the wars end. His wife was Mary (Long) born in 1821 in Augusta County Virginia. Son’s names are James, Jacob and Lucian. Daughter’s names are Caroline, Retta, Lucy and Anna.

James Fisher, born in 1847 in Rockingham County, Virginia, a cabinetmaker, joined the 5th Virginia Infantry company D,Augusta Reserves, on 17 June 1864 and fought at Piedmont, Waynesboro and was a guard at Libby prison in Richmond, Virginia. In 1874 he moved his family to Roanoke, Illinois. The family returned to Highland County, Virginia for three years and then moved back to Roanoke, Illinois. He was a cabinetmaker and ran a lumber business. His wife is Signora (Reynolds) born in 1846, in Highland County, Virginia,. In 1912 the family moved to Eau Claire Wisconsin to get away from hay fever with his sons Orin, Frank and daughter Gertrude.

Orin, born in 1878, and his wife Mamie (Jetter), born in 1880, moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin from Roanoke, Illinois in 1912 with Orin's folks. He was a cabinetmaker and ran a tire retreading shop on Water Street prior to the depression. He enjoyed to work in the garden and grew and sold Glad’s by the thousands. When he lived in Illinois he was the pitcher, for nine years, of the Roanoke Reds, a local baseball team. They had a son James and daughter Elisabeth.

James Fisher, born in 1916, lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin most of his life. He worked for the Wisconsin Conservation Dept. Served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and flew B-17s, B25s and B-29 bombers. Owned his own lumber business after leaving the Wisconsin Conservation Dept. and was an environmental consultant for several companies such as Northern States Power and Ford Motor Co. He wrote a sportsman's column for the Eau Claire Leader Telegram for over 25 years. His wife is Verda (Olson), born in 1920 in Jackson County, Wisconsin. They had sons Stephen and Jim.

Stephen Fisher, born in 1946, lives in Durand, Wisconsin. He worked for the Wisconsin State Patrol and then the Pepin County Sheriff's Dept. He retired after 34 years of law enforcement. His wife is Christine (Jorgensen) and they have sons James, Stephen and daughter Lea.

James Fisher, born in 1968, lives in Minot, North Dakota. He joined the United States Air Force right out of High school and was stationed at Minot, N.D. and Wichita Falls, TX.. He retired after 24 years in the Military.
